Workout: 1.5 mile run / 14:00 + 3 mile run w/Quynh / 35:00; total 4.5 miles
It’s finally back to tank top and shorts running weather! What state am I in? This is unheard of for March in Colorado, but I’ll take it without complaints.
I did something today that I’ve never done before: run with a running club! [Before I come off sounding all hardcore or something, this running club is probably one of the most laid back running clubs out there.] There’s an Irish pub in a less sketchy area of Colfax in Denver near City Park called The Irish Snug.
It’s a really relaxed, fun place with good happy hour specials, but another thing they’re known for is their running club, the Irish Snug Running Club. Every Thursday, people gather at the Snug at either 6:15p or 6:30p and head out for a 5K. You pretty much head off whenever you’re ready and just follow the crowds. When you get back, they serve you spaghetti, garlic bread, and salad FOR FREE. Oh, did I also mention that it’s free to sign up?
I actually did a mile and a half before meeting up with Quynh to get more mileage in for the day and did it “fast”! Sub-10 minute pace…woot woot! We ran the 5k nice and slow, but it felt good because my legs were feeling tired from the faster pace on my own.
After you do 10 runs with them, you also get a free running club shirt. You show up on whatever Thursdays you want, get free food, eventually get a free shirt, and get to run in the company of other like-minded people (also for free). Why did I not join this sooner? There were even some people sitting out on their patios cheering us on like it was a real race or something.
The spaghetti looked kind of like the one pictured, except it was way more classy in a styrofoam bowl I heard there are a lot more around town that run similarly to this one, so it’s time for me to do some more digging!
Question of the Day: Have you ever ran with a running club/group? If you’re from Denver, do you know of any other free ones? Wanna meet up with me at the Snug sometime?
